Three days, three votes

I liked Fred Clark's post, "Congressional box scores", concerning three Senate roll calls on three successive days: June 15, 16 and 17. I decided to check up on my Senators (and one other Senator), as well as compare how the Senate's web site summarized the issues with how the Wilmington News-Journal did.

Kennedy Amdt. No. 3263 to S. 2400 (National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2005): To prohibit the use of funds for the support of new nuclear weapons development under the Stockpile Services Advanced Concepts Initiative or for the Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrator (RNEP).

Defeated 42 - 55 with 3 not voting

    Kerry (D-MA), Not Voting

    Santorum (R-PA), Nay

    Specter (R-PA), Nay

On the Motion to Table Dodd Amdt. No. 3313 to S. 2400 (National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2005): To prohibit the use of contractors for certain Department of Defense activities and to establish limitations on the transfer of custody of prisoners of the Department of Defense.

Passed (i.e. the amendment was defeated) 54 - 43 with 3 not voting

    Kerry (D-MA), Not Voting

    Santorum (R-PA), Yea

    Specter (R-PA), Yea

Boxer Amdt. No. 3368 to S. 2400 (National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2005): To allow deployment of the ground-based midcourse defense element of the national ballistic missile defense system only after the mission-related capabilities of the system have been confirmed by operationally realistic testing.

Defeated 42 - 57 with 1 not voting

    Kerry (D-MA), Not Voting

    Santorum (R-PA), Nay

    Specter (R-PA), Nay

How disappointing! (See later post above on Kerry not voting.)
